Washington College is firmly committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment where all students, staff and faculty feel valued. To that end, the Cromwell Center for Teaching and Learning co-sponsors events with other offices on campus, in particular, the Office of Intercultural Affairs, the Office of Academic Skills, and the Office of English Language Learning. The Center also gathers resources to help teachers better serve all of our students in and out of the classroom.

Through the Cromwell Fellows Program, the Center offers three different types of grants—for Innovative Pedagogy, Interdisciplinary Course Development, and Interdisciplinary Program Development—which are designed to encourage faculty to explore, among other things, new uses of technology in the classroom and to develop interdisciplinary connections with other colleagues. Each semester, the Cromwell Fellows from previous semesters report back to colleagues about what they’ve learned and what they can share.

The Center supports programs that create space and time for faculty to learn from each other as teachers. The Teaching Cluster program offers a chance for small groups of faculty to work together in a focused way to their needs and interests. Masticate and Confabulate invites faculty and educational experts together to discuss best practices in Higher Education. Finally, the Center helps faculty members find the mentoring they need to address challenges and opportunities they face in their teaching.
